London Heathrow Border Force Strike 5AM April 29 – 7AM May 3, 2024

The UK Border Force strike at London’s Heathrow Terminals 2, 3, 4, and 5 should have started 25 minutes ago when I wrote this piece. It ends at 7 AM on May 3, 2024.

More than 300 border employees will walk from their jobs for four days, but they are expected to be replaced by other public employees during the strike.

Union’s Announcement:

Border Force officers set to strike tomorrow

Hundreds of PCS members take action over  changes to their working conditions

Hundreds of Border Force officers at Heathrow Airport tomorrow (Monday) begin four days’ strike action over changes to their working conditions.

The more than 300 Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union members working in terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5 will walk out from 5am on April 29 until 7am on May 3.

They are taking action in protest at plans to introduce new rosters that would see around 250 of them forced out of their jobs at passport control.

PCS general secretary Fran Heathcote said: “It’s disappointing that despite talks last week, the Home Office is not prepared to grant any flexibility to their new roster.

“None of our dedicated and highly experienced members in the Border Force want to take strike action but the way they’ve been treated by their employer leaves them with no option.

“The Home Office still has time to prevent tomorrow’s strike if it agrees to abandon this unworkable new system.”

Conclusion

Last time, when there was a border strike, things were running smoothly as enough employees were moved in from other sectors/army to cover the void.

I entered and exited the UK through London’s Heathrow, and the experience was smooth because of those self-service machines.
